TCI has an immediate need for a Helpdesk Engineer for the Operations Center of an operational system in Melbourne, FL.  This is not a Corp-to-Corp opportunity.  This is a Contract-to-hire opportunity.
SUMMARY
TCI has an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Helpdesk engineer for the Operations Center of an operational system. The successful candidate must be able to answer and solve all customer problems in support of multiple customer programs. The help desk supports Solaris Unix Administration, networking, NT/XP administration, printer troubleshooting, database administration, HP Unix administration, ZABBIX monitoring, hardware replacement/troubleshooting, and custom software.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Handle all communications with external customers.
  • Provide 24x7 support -- includes both shift work and on-call support.
  • Support/coordinate on-site installs/upgrades done by the customer.
  • Perform installs/upgrades remotely on systems.
  • Instruct software and system personnel on user needs/wants, user abilities, etc.
  • Inform software and system personnel of new problems that arise with the software/systems being supported.
  • Assist software and system personnel with the identification/diagnosis of problem causes (root cause analysis).
  • Author technical policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot all hardware, software, and system problems at the sites.
  • Handle all levels of solving the problem - in other words it is not escalated outside the helpdesk.
  • Database Administration support (Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.).
  • Instruct on-site techs how to repair the system hardware.
  • Transmit user-critical/time-sensitive data to the customer sites.
  • Correct user-critical/time-sensitive data which was provided by the customer (and other sources) in a wrong format, incomplete, etc.
  • Perform system-level preventive maintenance on the sites.
  • Provide critical outage notification to management and to the external customer.
  • Provide real-time monitoring of hardware and software.
  • Provide real-time monitoring of the sites via remote monitoring tools.
  • Interface with external partners for on-site tech support and transmission of weather data.
  • Build from scratch all site machines.
  • Test all machines before they go to the sites.
  • Activate user services/accounts.
Additional duties may include:
  • Design/develop tools for monitoring/evaluating systems.
  • Create scripts to upgrade and correct systems.
  • Test scripts and software for installations and user actions.
  • Interact with software and system personnel to recommend solutions to software/system problems.
  • Instruct software and system personnel on system administration, system capabilities, etc.
  • Follow the Program Tracking Report (PTR) process from start to finish including the design and development portion.
  • Create and maintain a website.
  • Travel to sites to solve serious problems when the problem is beyond the ability of the on-site tech.
  • Perform analysis of trends.
  • Develop the scripts to automate the building of machines.
  • Support the lab environment with networking administration/tracking, machine maintenance, troubleshooting, configuration, etc.
  • Perform security audits on some systems.
  • Design/Implement new ideas for improvements to the system.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 0-2 years related experience with BS/BA (Bachelors) in Information technology, Meteorology, Computer Science or related field; or 4+ years related experience with 2 years post-Secondary/AA-AS Degree; or 8+ years related experience with No Degree.
  • Experience with:
    • Unix (Solaris, HP) system administration
    • Windows system administration
    • Various LINUX-type operating systems
    • Networking
    • Monitoring tools (such as Zabbix and PRTG)
    • ORACLE and PostgreSQL database administration
    • HP OpenView
    • Custom software/hardware
    • Printers
    • Data communications (satellite, modems, etc.)
  • Willing/able to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotational basis; be a quick learner; have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills; have Unix/Linux administration experience; have networking experience; NT/XP experience; excellent phone manners and be able to clearly enunciate; excellent customer service abilities and experience; ability to teach/explain complicated things; good organization skills; database knowledge; team player; patient; meteorology experience a plus.
  • Currently possess or have the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
